1. What instrument is the soprano voice of the strings? It is also the smallest/highest of the string family!
2. This instrument is bigger than the smallest one, but still held/played the same way. Considered the alto. Looks like it's spelled similar to a color similar to purple, also a flower... 3. Helllloooooooooooo, remember this one just starts with a C! A whole octave lower than #2, it is played upright while the player sits. 4. This is DOUBLE the size of #3, and is the largest/lowest sounding of the string instruments. Often seen in jazz bands, standing at the back of the group. 5. The harp has how many strings? HINT: it's more than 4, but less than 48! 6. Pizzicato is a technique in playing a string instrument in which the player uses something other than the bow to make sound. What do they use, and how do they do it? A letter detailing important dates and information for the semester went home with all 5th grade students today. Please, be sure to read through it! On staff paper (provided or free downloadable/printable staff paper HERE) complete the assigned composition assignment meeting the following criteria:
Treble Clef 4/4 Time Signature Four full measures - barlines between measures Start and End on 'C' End last measure with a double-barline Show math under measures Worth 5 points homework assignment Due at beginning of class on Tuesday Extra Credit Opportunity: For every 2 additional correct/full measures composed, students will receive 1pt EC. Up to 5 points of EC may be earned. ALL 5th/6th students need to bring this half-sheets of staff paper to class T/Th this week, as we will be writing short songs in class. If you don't have those half-sheets, you may struggle. Bring your required materials to make making music much much merrier! :)
Well, it’s that time of year again. . . Time for the 5TH AND 6TH BANDS AND CHOIRS WINTER CONCERT!!!!! This note is just a friendly reminder that this year’s Winter Concert is Wednesday, December 12, with a start time of 7:00pm, and that all 5th and 6th grade students are required to attend as part of both their Band and Chorus/Music grades. This year’s Winter Concert should be a lot of fun, and I hope you are looking forward to it as much as your students and I are. The following information is important, with some new and some review, including a reminder on attire and call time information. Call times are important to get the groups’ voices and instruments warmed up, thinking about the concert, and focused. It is also a time for last-minute reminders, announcements, etc. It is important that ALL students are on-time, in the room, and ready to go at these times to help the evening run smooth and keep everyone organized and focused. Call times to warm up, with students meeting in the band/chorus room upstairs, will be as follows: 6:10 – 6th Grade Band 6:20 – 5th Grade Band 6:30 – 6th Grade Chorus 6:40 – 5th Grade Chorus 6:55 – All in seats 7:00 – Concert Begins! And, as was sent home in the August letter with the concert date on it, the concert attire is as follows: 1. A solid Red, Black, or White shirt (NO stripes, patterns, etc, please). 2. Good pants (no rips, holes, tears, please) and 3. Good shoes. If acquiring any of these has been or will be a problem, please see Ms. Simmons immediately. Thank you so much for taking the time to review this information. I think it is safe to say that your students are excited to show off what we have been taking time to work on for you, and I hope you are just as excited to see and hear what they can do. If there is ever any question or concern about anything relating to the concert, please do not hesitate to contact me via the information below. Thanks again, and I’ll see you Wednesday, December 12, at 7:00pm, for the 2012 Winter Concert! Sincerely, Benjamin A Schweizer 5 – 12 Bands and Choirs Teacher Cuba CUSD #3 MHS Phone: (309)785-5023 x1214 [email protected] http://bschweizer.weebly.com/ Find and “Like” the Cuba Music Department on Facebook, too!
Mr. Schweizer will be at the MHS for conferences both tonight and tomorrow. If you would like to meet with me during this time, come see me in the MHS gym tonight, or in my classroom in that building tomorrow. I would love to see some parents and/or students in this time!
Just a reminder to all 5th and 6th grade parents/students wanting to be a part of the 2012 IMEA All-District Elementary Chorus on Saturday, November 3, that Permission Forms are due THIS THURSDAY (9/27)
Selection takes place around October 1, once all nominations are in, and I will inform students and parents of who has been chosen from Cuba to attend just as soon as I know. Students will need nice clothes for the concert on November 3. This is a great experience, especially for those talented young singers wanting to audition for choirs and other music opportunities later on. If any student/parent is interested in purchasing a trumpet, Beth Simpson is selling her Conn Ltd. silver plated trumpet (very good horn) for $375 (VERY good deal!). She can be reached at [email protected] or (309)789-6759. This is a great trumpet, one that would be good for any 5-12 band student to have! See pics below.
ALL Permission Forms are due BY August 28!!! These are for ALL 5th/6th students, whether interested in band or not!
