High School Bass Fishing Club
Interested in becoming a member of the club? All Cuba High School students are able to join, male or female, regardless of experience or skill! The club is open to those who want to just fish for fun, as well as those who want to compete in tournaments. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer and share their expertise to help make the Bass Fishing Club an enjoyable, successful experience for everyone involved. Things are very relaxed in the Fall semester, so we do NOT meet regularly for casting/pitching/flipping practices, only an occasional weekend fishing event thrown in.
The OFFICIAL Spring season practices will begin February, 2015, and we will meet EVERY Monday and Thursday, 3:30 - 5:00. Practices include discussion/seminar-style learning about varied techniques and aspects of the sport, and then go into CPF practice, guided toward specialized techniques with rods/reels in-hand.
Our Spring Tournament schedule will be very dependent on the weather. Ice will need to be off the water for a good week before we will try our luck out there.
ALL students wishing to participate need the following for EVERY fishing event:
- Fishing Poles & Tackle
- Preferred minimum ONE baitcaster and ONE spinning. No spincasting or "push-button" reels, please.
- A variety of crankbaits, spinners, soft plastics, swimbaits, jigs, and terminal tackle will be used.
- Life Jacket
- USCG Approved. Doesn't need to be fancy, but should be comfortable.
- Safety Glasses
- Polarized is best, but not required.
- Hat
- Fishing License (if age 16+)
- Purchased through Illinois DNR here or at any retail store that sells them (WalMart, Farm King, etc.)
- Closed shoes (NO SANDALS!)
- Dress for the weather (rain, wind, COLD, heat, etc.)
For NON-fishing events (casting/pitching/flipping practices, etc.), students should still bring at least one pole.
